ARLINGTON, Tx. - The UTA golf team will continue its season at the NCAA Regionals at the University of Texas Golf Club from May 14-16. It will be the Mavericks second consecutive regional appearance, fourth in the last five years and the seventh in school history.

The Mavericks will enter the regional as the ninth seed and will join the following schools in the tournament - Stanford, Florida, Texas Tech, Texas, UNLV, California, Lamar, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, New Mexico State and Jackson State.

The UT Golf Club is a familiar one for the Mavericks as all of the players head coach Jay Rees will take with him have played the course a number of times and the team won tied for first in last Texas Intercollegiate Cup which was held in the fall of 2007.

"This is the first time we have played the venue before in the regionals," Rees said. "We have the most knowledge of this course than any other of the courses we have played in previous regionals. "We have seen the pin placements and how hard it can be. Our guys know it will be a tough grind.

"As we had success a year ago at this course and four of our five guys have played the venue, I feel it will help us to be comfortable to play at the UT Golf Club and a site we have been before," Rees added. "Playing there gives us the best possible chance at advancing to the finals."

Zack Fischer, who finished as a co-medalist at the Southland Conference Tournament last week, couldn't agree more with his head coach.

"This course gives us our best chance to advance," he said. "We have already have all played the course a number of times. It's a tough course but one we will be ready to play."

UTA finished the regular season with a second place finish at the Southland Conference Tournament last week in Kerrville, Texas. The team was ranked 49th in the country in the latest rankings.

The Mavericks posted a 115-31-2 record on the season and went 3-5-1 against other teams in the Austin Regional.

"We have played well against teams like Texas Tech, Texas, UNLV and Lamar plus other top teams in the country," Rees added. "I feel this is a great opportunity to get to the finals."

Earlier today the team had four players named to all-conference teams as Bobby Massa, Fischer and Michael Van deVenter were named to the first, second and third team respectively while Bryce Easton earned honorable mention honors. Rees was honored for his work as he was named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year.

This regional appearance will also be the fourth in the last five years for Rees and his team. Last year the team played at Ohio State's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio and finished 22nd with Massa being the top individual as he finished in a tie for 33rd.

The Mavs also made the postseason in 2005 and 2006. In 2005 the team finished 21st at the West Regional in Palo Alto, Calif., and then finished in a tie for 16th in 2006 at the Central Regional in Cleveland, Ohio.

UTA also made regional appearances in 1998 (15th at Oak Hills CC in San Antonio), 1999 (T15th, at Ohio State's Scarlet Course) and 2002 (T17th, Little Rock, Ark.).

The Austin Regional is one of six 54-hole regional competitions being conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals not on those qualifying teams who will advance to the finals at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio from May 27-30.

The University of Texas Golf Club plays to a par of 71 and 7,412 yards. Admission to the event is free and can be followed live via
