GOLFERS STAND IN SEVENTH PLACE AT THE MAXWELL

Krantz leads all golfers with opening round 65

ARDMORE, Okla. - The UTA men's golf team used a sparkling round of five-under-par 65 to fire an opening round of 280 and then settled into the pack with a second round 291 for seventh place after the opening day of the 13th Annual Maxwell Cup played at the Dornick Hills Country Club here Saturday.

Fianl round action begins at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Co-hosts Oklahoma State and Oklahoma are atop the leader board with scores of 549 and 556, respectively. UTA sits at 571, one stroke behind Oklahoma City in the 15-team field.

Krantz took advnatagae of pristine weather conditions Saturday morning to shoot the lowest round of the morning play. Oklahoma's Doug Manor had the best round of the day, a 64, during the afternoon round.

Krantza and Mordt are tied for ninth place with 139s. Mordt was the only Maverick to shoot par or better in both rounds with a 69 and 70. Krantz shot a second round 74. Marc Campbell (71-2=143) is tied for 26th and Chris Myers had a pair of 75s to finish at 150. Mitch Boles rounded out the squad (81-79=160).
