June 6, 2007 TRINITY, Texas - UT Arlington men's golfers Zack Reeves, Bobby Massa, Michael Mullin, Zack Fischer and Jamey Taylor have qualified for the 2007 Texas State Amateur Championship at the Whispering Pines Golf Club here. The four-day tournament begins Thursday morning on the par-72, 7,480-yard layout. Whispering Pines GC is located 30 miles northeast of Huntsville. More than 650 entries were received this year with the golfers playing in 18 qualifiers across the state for 121 open slots in the field. The five current players is the most of any collegiate program to qualify for the program. Along with the five current players, former Mav golfers Ryan Zamorano and Travis Watson are also scheduled to compete. Texas and TCU have four golfers each and Arkansas has three golfers competing in the tournament. No other Southland Conference school has more than one golfer in the field. Reeves is playing in the tournament for the third straight year. Last year, Reeves finished 24th with a four-round total of two-under-par 286 (70-68-72-76). Over a dozen current PGA Tour and Champions Tour players have their named engraved on the H.L. Edwards Memorial Trophy, including Mark Brooks, Charles Coody, Ben Crenshaw, Bob Estes, Bruce Lietzke and Scott Verplank. utamavs.com
