REEVES CLAIMS FIFTH AT STATE AM
June 10, 2007
TRINITY, Texas - UT Arlington senior Zack Reeves used a final round of even-par 72 to move into fifth place at the 98th Texas State Amateur Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Course Sunday afternoon.
Reeves, the 2005 runner-up in the tournament, just missed repeating the feat, but a double bogey on the 223-yard, par-3 No. 16 spoiled the rally.
Charlie Holland of Dallas was the only golfer to finish under par for the tournament at two-under 286 after a final round of three-over-par 75. He was three strokes better than Andrew Landry and Robby Ormand who finished at one-over 289.
UT Arlington's sophomore Bobby Massa struggled down the stretch, going four over par the final four holes to finish Sunday with a 76, good enough for a tie for 12th (74-72-72-76-294).
Freshman-to-be Jamey Taylor notched a 77 on the final to finish tied for 19th at 298.
Junior Michael Mullin carded a 78 on the final and finished 53rd.
