ARLINGTON, TEXAS - UT Arlington junior Paul McConnell is leading the 103rd Texas Amateur Championship after carding a 7-under 64 on Friday at The Honors Golf Club in Carrollton. McConnell has a two-stroke lead going into Saturday's second round.
McConnell is one of six UTA players competing in the 54-hole tournament that ends Sunday and is joined by senior Jamey Taylor in the top 10. Taylor posted a 3-under 68 to sit in eighth place, just a shot out of a tie for third.
The 2012 Texas Amateur presented by Insperity was moved to The Honors Golf Club due to the severe hail damage suffered by Lakewood Country Club, the original tournament host. The championship is 18 holes of stroke play on Friday and Saturday, with a cut to the low 54 players and ties following the second round. The final round is scheduled for 18 holes of stroke play on Sunday.
The complete leaderboard is available at the Texas Golf Association website.
