July 21, 2003
ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington head golf coach Jay Rees has announced the signing of Mitch Boles to a National Letter of Intent to attend the university and begin playing for the Mavs in the Fall of 2003. Boles becomes the fifth player to sign with the Mavericks for next season joining Marc Campbell and Chris Myers who signed in the spring and early signees Michael Douthit and Zack Reeves who signed during the early signing period.
Boles, a 6-1, 155 pounder out of Marlow, Okla., comes to UTA after finishing his high school career at Marlow High School by placing second at the Oklahoma 4A State Championships. Boles placed second by shooting his best round in competition, a three under 68 in the first round and followed it up with a 70 in the second round and a 70 in the final round. Boles finished his career by becoming a four time state qualifier and being selected to the 2003 Large School All-State team. Boles is no stranger to winning as he won the Al & Em Tournament in Marlow, as well as the Conference Tournament in Lakeview and the Hinton Tournament in Riverside.
Boles' academics do not take a back seat to his play on the lynx as he graduated with a 3.8 GPA. He is a member of the First Baptist Church Marlow youth choir, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and was a Marlow High School Peer Mediator.
