OOLTEWAH, Tenn. - UTA golfer Marc Campbell (Southlake, Texas) carded a final round 77 to finish in a tie for 48th place at the 98th Southern Amateur Championship at the Honors Course here July 17.

Campbell was one of nine Texas golfers to finish in the top 50. Ryan Posey was the top Texan, tying for fifth with a four round total of three-under-par 285.

Campbell carded rounds of 77, 75, 72, and 77 for a 13-over-par 301.

The Southern Amateur dates back to 1902. Previous champions include: Robert T. (Bobby) Jones Jr., Don January, Doug Sanders, Hubert Green, Lanny Watkins, Tom Kite, John Mahaffey, Ben Crenshaw, Gary Koch, Bill Rogers, Gil Morgan, Danny Edwards, Jerry Pate, Chip Beck, David Edwards, Jay Sigel, Bob Tway, Mark Brooks, Gene Sauers, Davis Love, Justin Leonard and Allen Doyle.

The Southern Golf Association is one of the oldest, largest - serving approximately 500 member clubs over a 14 state area.
