CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Despite off and on rainy conditions, UTA director of golf Stuart Deane got in a nine hole practice round today in preparation for Thursday's opening of the 99th PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club.
Deane, who played today's round with 2-time PGA TOUR winner Daniel Berger and recent U.S. Open runner-up Brian Harman, got his third look in as many days at the golf course's front nine. He is expected to play a final practice round early tomorrow morning.
"This is an exciting week regardless of the conditions right now," said Deane. "We have had a lot of rain and everything is a little soft. When it gets wet, like it is, the golf course plays a whole lot longer, but the greens get a little more receptive. When we got here Sunday, the greens were incredibly firm and the golf course played a lot quicker.
"We are going to just have to hit it, find it, hit it again and add `em up."
Following today's round, Deane signed dozens of autographs and posed for photos with some of the thousands of fans in attendance - particularly younger golf fans. More than 100,000 spectators are expected to attend the PGA Championship this week.
Deane is scheduled to open the tournament Thursday morning at 6:25 a.m. (CDT) off the 10th tee in a group that includes 2016 U.S. Open runner-up Shane Lowry from Ireland and Pablo Larrazabal from Spain.
The group will go off the first tee to begin Friday's second round at 11:35 a.m. The low 70 scores and ties will advance to the weekend's final two rounds.
The first two rounds will be televised live on TNT from 12 Noon - 6 p.m. TNT will also provide coverage of the weekend's rounds from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., while CBS will televise live coverage from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
