Golf announces 2011-12 Schedule
Aug. 25, 2011
Arlington, Tex. - UT Arlington men's golf coach Jay Rees always likes to play a schedule that will prepare his team for the conference championship which the Mavericks will be defending this season.
And in their final season in the Southland Conference, the Mavericks should be ready to defend that title after a number of tough tournaments that highlight UTA's 2011-12 schedule, which was released today.
"I think the this year's schedule will prepare us to defend our conference title," Rees said. "We have a number of new tournaments on the schedule and those will be good tests for our team. We are also playing in some familiar ones as well, so we hope this combination will turn out to be a successful one for us."
The Mavericks start the season on September 12-13 at the Wichita State/Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic. They will then return to the Metroplex for their only home meet of the season as UTA hosts the annual UTA/Waterchase Invitational on September 19 and 20.
UTA will then finish out the fall schedule with return trips to tournaments at Notre Dame, Mercer and UTSA.
The Mavericks will start the spring season with consecutive trips to California. They start with a return trip to the Taylor Made/San Diego Invitational on Feb. 13 and 14 before returning to a new event for the Mavs, the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Springs two weeks later.
The prestigious Morris Williams Invitational on March 15-16 in Austin is next for the Mavs before two more new tournaments.
Over the first two weeks in April, UTA will play at the Bancorp South Invitational at Madison, Miss. before traveling to Houston for The Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate.
The Mavs will then try to defend their conference crown from April 23-25 at Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney, Tex.
After a round of regionals, the NCAA Championships are set for May 9-June 3 at historic Riveria Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
