ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's golf returns to competition after a 15-day break in the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic. The 13-team, 54-hole tournament runs Monday and Tuesday at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
UT Arlington's five-man team consists of senior Brad Mason, junior Jake Argento, freshman Zach Galliford, junior Joss Gosling and junior Marley Sweeney. Andrew Cornella, junior, is playing as an individual. Mason, Gosling and Sweeney are making their team debuts this fall.
"It's a good thing," UT Arlington coach Jay Rees said. "This will be eight different guys on the road so far. I don't think that's ever happened in my 15 years here. It's a positive to have this much depth. I think they're prepared. Josh and Marley getting in there is a good thing.
"It pushes Cash Wilkerson and Riley Fleming and the other guys at home to keep getting better. I think there will be a couple of different lineups in the fall before we settle on one for the spring. I'm eager to see how we'll do. We've had good practices and I like the mindset. They're committed to each other and I feel we'll get a good team effort."
The Mavericks placed 10th in their first event of the fall, the Northern Intercollegiate. Mason, competing as an individual, had the best showing by tying 15th. Wilkerson, tying for 33rd, was the high finisher among the five members of UTA's team contingent. Fleming and Cornella tied for 42nd. Galliford tied for 51st and Argento tied for 55th.
