Sept. 30, 2005
It may be early in the 2005-06 season, but UTA golf coach Jay Rees has to be smiles watching two of his golfers climb up the individual rankings, according to golfweek.com.
Senior Tyrone Modt and sophomore Zack Reeves are ranked 41st and 86th, respectively, following their play at the 2005 Northwest Intercollegiate Tournament in Corvallis, Ore.
Mordt's 69.59 stroke average at the first tournament of the year propelled him to a third-place finish in Corvallis. It was Mordt's 14th top 10 finish of his career.
"I think both of those guys expect that of themselves," said Rees. "They are trying to win tournaments and they are not going to be happy until the do (win a tournament).
Reeves lowered his average to 69.83 after a fourth-place finish at the Nevada Wolf Pack Invitational.
As a team, UTA is ranked 73rd according to golfstat.com. The team's 287.50 stroke average ranks 25th nationally and tops in the region.
UTA returns to action Oct. 10-11 at the Baylor Bear Invitational.
