ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men’s golf team will travel to South Bend, Indiana to compete in the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic, hosted by Notre Dame on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
The Mavericks tied for fifth at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite on Sept. 25. UTA had a 6-under 858 total score on the 7,771 yard, par-72 course at the Colorado National Golf Club. On top for the Mavs was freshman Riley Fleming who finished tied for seventh overall with his 6-under 210 score.
The five-man team representing UT Arlington at Notre Dame is composed of Hunter Brown, Riley Fleming, Cameron Hollek, Paul McConnell and Cash Wilkerson. Brad Mason will be playing as an individual. Last year at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, Paul McConnell won by a shot with an even-par-210 score.
"Paul won the tournament last year individually and we had one of our best finishes as a team," UTA coach Jay Rees said. "Everyone but Riley has played the course, and Riley plays well on bent grass.
"I feel if everyone plays well this week we can get to the top and win this event."
The 12-team field will tee off at Warren Golf Course, located in the north east corner of Notre Dame’s campus. This 7,023 yard, par-71 course of classic links design features square tee boxes, undulating greens and native grasses.
The first threesome is set to tee off on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Live in-progress scoring will be available on Golfstat’s website for the Fighting Irish Classic throughout the entire tournament.
