Oct. 13, 2003
ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington golf team is heading to McKinney to participate in the 2003 SMU Stonebridge Invitational on Monday and Tuesday Oct. 13-14 at the Stonebridge Country Club. UTA will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
The Mavericks are one of 18 teams participating in the tournament along with the host SMU, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Arkansas-Little Rock, McNeese State, Louisiana-Lafayette, College of Charleston, Lamar, Southeastern Louisiana, Iowa State, Baylor, Tulane, North Texas, Arkansas, Wichita State, Vanderbilt and the SMU JV.
The makeup of the UTA lineup for the third tournament of the season will be very different as only two players, Landon Allen and Jordan Krantz, have played in the first two tournaments. Senior Chris Erickson and freshmen Marc Campbell and Michael Douthit will be playing in their first events of the fall, while Campbell and Douthit are making their collegiate debuts.
"This is a very important tournament for us because it is a district tournament," said head coach Jay Rees. "This will give us an opportunity to see where we stack up against teams in our conference and in the region. We have a very young team that needs to just compete with enthusiasm play the best they can. I am real excited to see how they can compete as a complete group."
The Mavericks will return to action on Oct. 21-22 as they head to Ruston, La. for the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Invitational.
