Michael Van DeVenter Sits In First Place After Two Rounds

Arlington, Texas - UTA wrapped up day one of the UTA Invitational with a commanding lead over a field of 15 on Monday at the Waterchase Golf Course in Forth Worth, Texas.

"Bobby and Michael put up a great effort today for us to lead in the tournament," said head men's golf coach Jay Rees. "Bobby's 70 and Michael's 67 was great and I think overall the guys put forth a great team effort."

"Tomorrow our main objective is to play smart golf. Overall it was a great day and we are moving in the right direction," said Rees.

The Mavs recorded a two-round team tally of 575 while Northwood (602), Oklahoma Christian (604), Texas State (605), UMCK (606) rounded out the top-five.

Leading UTA in first place after two-rounds is junior Michael Van deVenter, who notched a two-round tally of 138 (71-67) while teammate Bobby Massa sits in second place with a two-round tally of 140 (70-70).

Tied for ninth is Zack Fischer, who recorded a 36-hole score of 148 (77-71) while Donald Dowie finished tied for 18th place with a 151 (79-72) and Trey Herring tied for 30th with a two-round tally of 153 (77-76).

The Mavs will return back to Waterchase Golf Course tomorrow for the final round of golf at 8 a.m.
