Fischer Named Southland Golfer of the Month
Dec. 2, 2009
Frisco, Texas - UT Arlington's Zack Fischer has been named the Southland Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for November, the league office announced Wednesday.
Fischer earned his second career victory, and his first of the 2009-10 season, as he fired a five-under 67 in the final round at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate in Springfield, La. The course will host the Southland Conference Championship in April. The junior from Texarkana, Texas (Texas High School), won by two strokes over Ken Looper of New Orleans and Louisiana-Lafayette's Andrew Noto. Fischer's other career victory came at last year's conference tournament when he was a co-medalist before losing the conference title in a playoff.
There were two Southland golfers who earned honorable mention this month, including Central Arkansas' Steven Lecuyer and Lamar's Kevin Hesbois.
Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the golfers of the month, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a golfer must receive votes from at least 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
