ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington golf coach Jay Rees announced three new signees for the 2013-14 season. Rees is counting on Jake Argento, Jaret Brewer and Josh Radcliff to make an immediate impact and fit in with the successful group of golfers currently at UTA.
Jake Argento is currently a sophomore at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Ariz. As a freshman, Argento earned All-American honors with his third place overall finish at the NJCAA Division II National Championships. He won four collegiate tournaments last season and is currently ranked third in the nation among junior college golfers by Golfstat. Argento was the recipient of the 2012 Phil Mickelson Award and named to the 2012 All-Nicklaus Team.
"Jake is very consistent and he plays a very smart, disciplined game," Rees said. "Jake has the ability to deliver great scores immediately upon joining the team. We believe he is going to be an integral part of us winning the Sun Belt Championship and getting to the National Championships in the spring of 2014."
Jaret Brewer will be joining the Mavs from his hometown of Marion, Ill. Brewer has won conference championships twice, as well as a regional, sectional and state championship throughout his high school career. He wishes to become a professional golfer.
"He is long off the tee, has continued to learn to play to his strength, and continues to get better scoring the ball," Rees said. "We feel that he can be a great collegiate golfer and that he will make a great contribution to the UTA golf program."
Josh Radcliff rounds out the 2013-14 signing class. Radcliff will graduate this upcoming spring from Dallas Jesuit and is excited to become a Maverick. He was heavily recruited after leading his team to the District 9-5A title by winning the tournament.
"Josh is an embodiment of the ideal student-athlete," Rees said. "He is at the top of his class at Jesuit, is an excellent golfer, and is willing to work hard every day to get better. We are excited that Josh is joining the family."
The current Maverick golf team will be back on the course Feb. 11 at the Oak Hills Invitational, hosted by UTSA, in San Antonio, Texas. For the full 2012-13 UTA golf schedule, please click here.
