MEN'S TENNIS FALLS 6-1 TO NO. 7 TEXAS

AUSTIN, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis fell 6-1 to the No. 7 ranked University of Texas Longhorns on Sunday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The Mavs fall to 1-2 on the season as they prepare to open Southland Conference play with Nicholls State on Monday at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Longhorns swept the doubles matches to enter singles action with the 1-0 advantage.
Freshman Brieuc Hamon picked up the Mavs lone point in the match as the No. 4 single to Hubert Chodkiewicz. Hamon dropped the first set 3-6, but came back to win 6-3, 10-3.
In the No. 2 and 5 slots, freshman David Costa and sophomore Gonzalo Bienzobas fell in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to Ed Corrie (ranked 52nd nationally) and Rook Schellenber, respectively. Freshman Hugo Taracido was the first to fall, dropping the 6-2, 6-1 match to Luis Diaz Barriga. Nishant Hari was bested 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot by 100th ranked Jon Wiegand, and sophomore Dmitry Minkin was the last to fall 6-2, 6-4 to Kellen Damico who is currently ranked 24th in the nation.
UTA will look to even its record on Monday as they begin conference action with Nicholls State. The Colonels and Mavs are scheduled to face-off at 2p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
