Arlington, Texas – UT Arlington men’s tennis fell 4-3 against Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas Monday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
“Today was a very hard fought match,” UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. It is hard to lose, but we need to look to the next match. Our younger classmen played great and we look forward to them competing well this season.”
UT Arlington lead early after defeating the Cardinals in doubles to go up 1-0.
Carlos Arbiza and Javier Perez played at the No. 2 doubles position while Daniel Armengol Austin Robles played at the No. 3 position. Both duos took down their Lamar opponent heading into singles competition.
Armengol was able to carry his momentum into singles competition as he defeated LU 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at the No. 3 position in the line up. Sophomore Sebastian Erimicioiu also won in singles, playing at the No. 4 position, taking down his opponent 5-6, 6-3, 4-6.
The Mavericks drop to 0-2 on the season.
