ARLINGTON, Texas- The UT Arlington men's tennis team defeated Cameron 6-1 Saturday at the UTA Tennis Center for its first home victory of the season.
"We played a tough match against a team who hustles a lot," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "I was glad with the quality of tennis we performed today."
The men improved to 1-1 on the season after Saturday's win.
The Mavericks started strong winning the doubles point. Sebastian Gomez and Soren Goritzka won the first match 8-2. Cameron won the second doubles to finish, but Yauheni Yakauleu and Carlos Arbiza defeated Cameron 8-6 at the No. 1 doubles position.
UTA continued their competitive edge during singles competition. The Mavericks won five of the six singles with two freshmen stepping up and winning at No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
"We will continue ironing things down, preparing us for conference." Benitez said.
The Mavericks are back on the court Saturday, Feb. 16 in Waco as they take on the Baylor Bears at 6 p.m.
