ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's tennis lost its first Sun Belt Conference match of the season Sunday afternoon to UL Lafayette 5-2.
Carlos Arbiza and Javier Perez competed at the No. 1 doubles position defeating Yates Johnson and Hunter Johnson 8-2, while Austin Robles and Daniel Armengol paired up for the No. 3 position to win 8-6. UT Arlington started singles competition with a 1-0 lead over the Rajin' Cajuns.
"The men played a very intense match today," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "It was very close throughout. I'm very proud of Carlos with the way he fought during the whole match. Mario also came out and played with great confidence today.
"During doubles we were down in a couple of courts, but we never gave up. We stayed focus and were able to get the point."
The Mavericks are back on the court Feb. 16 as they host metroplex rival TCU at 10 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
