Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Wichita State Friday afternoon.

Wichita State opened doubles action by taking two of the three doubles matches to earn the first point.

In the No. 1 doubles, Mindaugas Celedinas and Yauheni Yakauleu fell to Valentin Mihai and Vlad Marinescu in an 8-5 decision. David Subirats and Nicolas Moreno lost to David Cavalcanti and Matheus de Paula Pereira 8-4 in the No. 2 spot.

UTA was able to get a win with Lucas Leppin and Brieuc Hamon fighting a hard battle against Patrick Stiebinger and Guillermo Nicol with a final score of 9-7.

The Mavericks were unable to bounce back in singles play, losing the No. 1, 3, 5 and 6 flights.

In the top singles flight, Vlad Marinescu beat Celedinas quickly, with the sets going 6-4 and 6-2.

David Cavalcanti recorded a tougher win over Erik Hjertonsson as their sets ended 6-4 and 6-3 in the No. 3 position.

Guillermo Nicol traded sets against Subirats but won the third with a final score of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1 in the No. 5 flight while Adrian Chermaci had the same outcome over Brieuc Hamon and recorded a 7-5, 6-1 and 6-4 in the No. 6 flight.

Both of UTA's wins came in a similar fashion with Yakauleu exchanging sets with Matheus Pereira and getting the win in the final set. Lucas Leppin had the same struggle overcoming Valentin Mihai in the No. 4 spot with a final score of 7-4, 6-2 and 7-6 (4).

 

 

The Mavs next match is against Utah at the UTA Tennis Center on Saturday, February 26.
