CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – UT Arlington men's tennis team lost a close battle at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 4-3, Monday afternoon.
The Mavericks drop to 3-6 overall and have yet to win a match on the road.
"These are the type of matches that will make us better," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "I'm proud of the effort on the court today."
No. 1 duo of senior Javier Perez and sophomore Carlos Arbiza, along with No. 2 duo of sophomores Marek Pesicka and Sebastian Erimicioiu, defeated their TAMU-CC opponents to take the 1-0 lead for the Mavericks heading into singles competition.
Pesicka fell in No. 1 singles (6-1, 2-0) before freshman Daniel Armengol won at the No. 3 position (6-2, 7-5) to regain the lead for UT Arlington. Freshman Mario Muniesa and Arbiza were the next Mavericks to fall to give the Islanders a 3-2 lead.
Erimicioiu won his sixth match of the season as UTA tied the match 3-3. Freshman Francesco Migliano lost at No. 6 singles 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the win for TAMU-CC.
UT Arlington will return to the court March 6 to host Nicholls State at 2 p.m.at the UTA Tennis Center to state a nine-match homestand.
