LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The UT Arlington men's tennis team traveled to Las Cruces, N.M. for a trio of matches this weekend. The Mavs (4-7) picked up the 7-0 sweep over Western New Mexico to start the weekend, before falling 5-2 to Sacramento State on Saturday and 4-0 to New Mexico State on Sunday.
The Mavs started the weekend strong sweeping Western New Mexico, 7-0 on Friday. UTA won all three doubles matches to head into singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Against Sacramento State on Saturday, sophomore Gonzalo Bienzobas scored one point in the No. 5 slot 6-1, 7-5 over Sven-David Rueff. Nishant Hari won the second point for the Mavs as the No. 6 single downing Ronan Conlon 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Sunday's match with New Mexico State was shortened due to windy playing conditions, so the first team to win four points won the match. NMSU took the 1-0 advantage wining the doubles point and made quick work winning three singles matches.
The Mavs will return to the courts when they host Wichita State on Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
