Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis team came up short at home Saturday when they faced their first conference match against UTSA, losing 4-3. The Mavericks fell to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

UTA lost the doubles point falling in two of the three matches.

Lucas Leppin and Brieuc Hamon got the only win in the No. 3 spot against Max Stratmann and Kolby Kilgo 9-8. The duo have won their last two doubles matches.

Martin Ayala and Danny Morieras defeated Yauheni Yakauleu and Mindaugas Celedinas 8-5 in the top flight while Nicolas Moreno and David Subirats dropped a 9-8 decision to Tyler Brown and Yannick Junger.

With the Roadrunners already leading 1-0, the six singles matches would be crucial for the Mavericks in order to come up with the win. Similar to last season, it all came down to the final singles flight to see who would win the match.

The No. 1 singles match would be the first to be finished with Yakauleu falling 6-3, 6-4 to Ayala while Celedinas recorded the first point for the Mavericks by taking down Junger 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 flight.

Daniel Moser gave UTSA a 3-1 lead after his 6-4, 6-4 win against Hamon in the No. 6 position but the Mavs weren't going down without a fight. UT Arlington came back strong in the next two flights to tie the match up 3-3.

Freshman Leppin came from behind to record the No. 4 flight against Stratmann with scores of 2-6, 6-3 and 6-3 while Subirats recorded a 4-6, 6-2 and 6-2 victory against Morieras in the No. 5 spot.

The match came down to the No. 3 flight where Erik Hjertonsson and Brown were battling back and forth for the win. In the end, Brown recorded the win with final scores of 6-2, 5-7, and 7-5.

UT Arlington will play its next match against Xavier on Tuesday at the after the Walnut Creek Country Club in Mansfield, Texas. Match is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
