Bienzobas overcame UTSA junior Andrew Becker in three sets, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 for the deciding match of the day at number-six singles.
Bienzabos coasted through the first set, winning 6-2, and held a 5-2 lead in the second set before Becker rallied to win the set in a tiebreaker. In the third set, both players seesawed back-and-forth until they forced a tiebreaker after being deadlocked at 6-6. Becker won the first point in the tiebreaker before Bienzobas scored four of the next five points to lead 4-2. After Becker cut the lead to 6-4, Bienzabos clinched the win with the next points to improve UTA to 5-5 overall and 3-0 in the SLC.
UTSA (9-7, 3-1) dropped its second match in as many days after losing to losing on the UTA courts Saturday.
Minkin tied the match at 3-3 after defeating Nate Avila in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-3).
UTA overcame the injury of veteran Daniel Omana will dropped a 6-4, 6-1 match to Rodrigo Morgado. Omana could not raise arm after reinjuring it during a match against Columbia on Friday and tweaked the shoulder early in Sunday's match.
"Our freshmen stepped up big today," said UTA Head Tennis Coach Diego Benitez. "We weren't sure how we stacked up against the best team's in the league, but this match will give us confidence as we head out to Boise State this week and then finish up conference play."
