ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington men's tennis squad picked up a win Friday afternoon, defeating Columbia University 6-1 at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavericks imporve to 8-6 overall with the win.

UTA claimed the first team point after winning at two of the three doubles positions. David Corrie and Nathan McGregor battled with Rohan Saikia and Akshay Rao for a 9-8 victory at the top spot. Sandy Farquharson and Petri van Rensburg paired up to drop Yoku Kiuchi and Rajeey Emany 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Corrie, ranked No. 23 nationally, earned a 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 win at the top singles position. McGregor rolled past Emany 6-3, 6-3 in the two spot while Farquharson picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win in three hole. Niels Buksik closed out UTA's straight set victories with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Saikia at the No. 4 position. Ian Vazquez-Rowe came back from one set down for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory over Jimmy Moore at the No. 5 position, while Van Rensburg dropped a 7-5, 7-6 decision to Marty Moore in the six spot.

The Mavericks will return to action Sunday, March 21 when they play host to Arkansas-Little Rock for an 11 a.m. match at the UTA Tennis Center.
