Mavs Drop Two at Home

Arlington, Texas - Due to injuries to No. 1 and 3 singles players Mindaugas Coledinas and Brieuc Hamon, the Mavericks were forced to play with a different lineup against No. 59 Columbia University and Sacramento State. The Mavs fell 5-1 to Columbia and 5-2 to Sacramento State.

Against Columbia, newcomer Yauheni Yakaulen was the only Maverick to record a win in the No. 3 singles spot with a score of 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles action, Dmitry Minkin and Mindaugas Celedinas dropped an 8-6 decision to Mihai Nichifor and Jonathan Wong in the No. 1 position. No. 2 doubles team, Yakaulen and Gonzalo Bienzobas suffered an 8-5 loss against Haig Schniderman and Nathaniel Gery.

David Subirats and Giacomo Sano dropped the No. 3 flight to Rajeev Deb-Sen and Kevin Kung, 8-0.

In singles action, Minkin dropped a 7-6, 6-3decision to Wong in the top flight while Subirats lost the No. 3 flight, 6-3, 7-5 over Schniderman. Jason Leteko did not finish the No. 4 flight while Bienzobas lost a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Kung in the No. 5 position.

Sano dropped the No. 6 flight against Gery with a final score of 6-0, 6-0. Against Sacramento State, UT Arlington continued to play without their usually lineup but Lateko who usually plays in the No. 6 singles spot stepped up and recorded a win in the No. 4 flight over Holden Ching, 7-6, 6-1.

Newcomer Sano picked up his first win of the season over Joe DeGuzman in the No. 6 position, 1-6, 6-0, and 6-1.

In doubles competition, UTA dropped all three flights to Sacramento State. In singles action, Minkin dropped a three-set decision to No. 62 Kiryl Harbatsiuk while Subirats lost the No. 2 flight, 6-3, 7-5.

 

 

Yakaulen dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Jason Smith in the No. 3 spot while Bienzobas lost the No. 5 flight to Starcevic, 6-3, 7-5.

The Mavericks will take a short break from non-conference action as they prepare for their first conference game of the season against Lamar on March 29 at the UTA Tennis Courts. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
