ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington men's tennis squad improved to 10-6 overall with a 6-1 victory over Wichita State Tuesday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center in Arlington.
UTA got on the board first after claiming two of the three doubles matches. The senior tandem of David Corrie and Nathan McGregor dropped Juan Escalante and Gabriel Loredo 8-5 at No. 1 doubles while Sandy Farquharson and Petri van Rensburg tagged Westin Hudnall and Carlo Contente with an 8-6 loss at No. 3 doubles.
The Mavericks quickly took a 2-0 lead as Van Rensburg dropped Hudnall 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Sandy Farquharson followed with a straight-set win over Loredo in the three hole, while Ian Vazquez-Rowe sealed the Mavericks win with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Escalante at the No. 4 position.
Texas-Arlington will return to action April 3 at Texas-San Antonio.
