Nashville, Tennessee – UT Arlington men's tennis fell 4-1 to Sun Belt Conference opponent South Alabama to open the Middle Tennessee Shootout.
"It was such a close match," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We were up in the last two courts and had a match point on the clinching court. We played a solid match and we just need to continue this rhythm the rest of the tournament."
With the loss the men drop to 5-11 overall and 0-2 against league teams after a 5-2 loss to ULL in February. South Alabama improved to 13-6.
The Jaguars swept the Mavericks in doubles play with a 6-2 win at the No. 1 position and 6-5 (3-0) win at the No. 2 position.
Freshman Daniel Armengol was the only Maverick to defeat his South Alabama opponent, 6-1, 6-5 (3-0).
