NASHVILLE, Tennessee – UT Arlington men's tennis defeated Southern Illinois 4-2 Saturday morning on the second day of the Middle Tennessee Shootout.
The Mavericks (6-11) dropped the doubles point to the Salukis, but battled back during singles play.
Carlos Arbiza, Daniel Armengol and Mario Muniesa all won their singles matches to put the Mavericks up 3-2.
Freshman Daniel Echeverry took down his SIU opponent 6-4, 6-3 to pull his team ahead for a 4-2 for the win.
"I'm proud of the men, they have played two tough matches back-to-back," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "I'm happy for Echeverry who clinched for us with a determined win."
The Mavericks close out the Middle Tennessee Shootout Sunday at 8 a.m. against Sun Belt Conference opponent Troy.
