UT Arlington men’s tennis defeated the New Mexico State Friday on the Aggies’ home court 4-3.
“It was another grinder,” UT Arlington head coach Diego Benitez said. “We keep facing really good teams and every match is so close.”
The doubles team struggled, falling in all three of the matches, but the Mavericks proved they are ready for the WAC in their singles competition.
Junior Soren Goritzka, playing at the No. 2 positions, defeated his Aggie opponent with a 6-1, 6-1 match.
“I’m very proud of the overall effort of the team especially Mindaugas (Celedinas) who came through in the final deciding match.
“NMSU will be a tough opponent in the WAC so this was a solid win for us,” Benitez said.
The men are back on the court Saturday at 1 p.m. as the take on Idaho.
