MEN'S TENNIS TOPS LAMAR, 4-3

ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis team won its fifth consecutive dual match Saturday, edging Lamar 4-3 for a hard-fought Southland Conference victory at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks (9-9, 4-2 SLC) lost the doubles point to the Cardinals (5-14, 0-3), but earned singles victories at No. 1, 4, 5 and 6 to secure the win.
Freshman David Costa put UTA on the board at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 7-5 defeat of Filip Kanczula.
Lamar picked up two points with Maciej Bogusz outlasting sophomore Dmitry Minkin 6-7, 7-6, 10-8 in a marathon match at No. 2 singles and Mario Janjic taking down freshman Hugo Taracido 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in the No. 3 slot.
Freshman Brieuc Hamon earned a critical point at No. 4 singles, rallying to defeat Diego Snyder 4-6, 6-4 and 6-3.
The Mavericks got straight-set victories at No. 5 and 6, with sophomore Gonzalo Bienzobas beating Allan Gomes 7-5, 6-3 and freshman Nishant Hari cruising to a 6-4, 6-2 triumph against Emmanuel Oliver.
In doubles action, the No. 1 tandem of Costa and Minkin fell 8-5 to Bogusz and Kanczula. At No. 2, Hamon and Hari lost 8-1 to Gomes and Snyder. Janjic and David Wanja edged Taracido and Bienzobas 8-6 to complete the doubles sweep for Lamar.
UTA returns to action with a non-conference match Wednesday at 7 p.m. at SMU.
