ARLINGTON, Texas— The UT Arlington men’s tennis team won its first Western Athletic Conference match of the season with a 7-0 win over Seattle U Sunday, April 7 at the UTA Tennis Center.

The Mavericks won the doubles point at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots allowing them to head into singles play with a 1-0 advantage over the Redhawks.

It was Senior Day for the Mavericks and the two seniors stepped up for the team playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions.

Yauheni Yakauleu played at the top of the lineup for UTA and won 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, while Soren Goritzka defeated his SU opponent at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-2.

"I think we played really well today," Yakauleu said. "The team gave 100 percent today, probably because it was Senior Day. Today was very emotional and I cannot believe that I already played here four for seasons. The time went by so fast."

With the win, UTA moved to 7-11 overall and 1-3 in league play.

The Mavericks have a few days off before traveling to Dallas to take on the SMU Mustangs Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m.
