DALLAS, Texas - UT Arlington ended its 2014 regular-season schedule with a 6-1 loss to Metroplex rival SMU on Wednesday night at the Bent Tree Country Club.
The Mavericks, finishing up play ahead of the Sun Belt Conference Championship beginning on April 17 in New Orleans, finished their schedule 7-12.
"We started quite slow today and didn't play very well in doubles," UT Arlington assistant coach Dmitry Minkin said. "Guys were able to turn it around in singles and fought very hard until the very end. Most of the matchers were very close and the ball didn't bounce on our side today. We are looking forward to practicing hard and getting ready for the conference tournament in New Orleans."
Francesco Migliano picked up UTA's lone match win of the competition with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Arkidjas Slobodkins in the No. 6 position.
Two of the other five singles matches went into three sets, but UTA was unable to pick up the wins. Daniel Armengol fell 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 in the No. 3 spot and Mario Muniesa dropped a 7-6, 6-7, 10-7 match.
