Arlington, Texas - With the Mavericks down 0-1 heading into singles play, UTA came from behind to secure a 5-2 decision over Utah Friday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center. The win improved the Mavs to 6-10 overall.
The Mavericks dropped all three matches in doubles action, losing the point. In No. 2 spot Yauheni Yakauleu and Brieuc Hamon dropped a 7-4 decision to Jason Smits and Timmy Allin while No. 3 team of Gonzalo Bienzobas and Adam Srkala fell 8-4 to Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano.
No. 1 team-Dmitry Minkin and Mindaugas Celedinas was the last to be completed as they dropped an 8-6 decision against Phillip Eilers and Alex Golding.
After a short break and team meeting, UTA regrouped and prepared for singles action. UT Arlington recorded wins in the No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 positions.
David Subirats in the No. 5 spot suffered a 6-3, 6-3 lost to Jacobs.
Yakauleu notched a 7-6, 6-2 victory in the No. 4 position to Allin while Hamon collected a hard fought three set win over Golding, 4-6, 7-5, and 6-2.
Behind a crowd of UTA fans, Mindaugas Celedinas ended the match with a hard fought 3-6, 6-4, and 7-6 win in the No. 2 spot.
The Mavs will now hit the road for a conference meeting over UTSA on Monday, April 12 at noon.
