ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women shut out undefeated Stephen F. Austin 4-0 Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center.

The Ladyjacks were 9-0 in the Southland Conference coming into Sunday's match and the Mavericks knew they could be the team to snap SFA's winning streak.

Seniors Maria Martinez-Romero and Natalia Mayuk played great tennis for the Mavericks, as well as freshmen Verena Scott and Liucija Smaizyte.

"We played very clean tennis today," UT Arlington head coach Diego Benitez said. "We played like the defending champions that we are.

"I'm so proud of all of our girls especially our seniors who gave it their all today in their last match at UTA Tennis Center."

The men also played Sunday as they faced off against the Rice Owls in Houston. The Mavericks fell 5-2 against Rice.

UTA struggled early against the Owls, losing the doubles point and headed into singles down 1-0.

No. 2 Soren Goritzka and No. 5 David Subirats each won their matches in singles play, pickup up two points for the Mavericks, but unfortunately the men fell shy against the Owls.
