MEN'S TENNIS BOWS TO ROADRUNNERS, 4-2
April 21, 2007 SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis team could not rally from an 0-2 deficit, dropping a 4-2 decision to host Texas-San Antonio in the semifinals of the 2007 Southland Conference Men's Tennis Championship here Saturday. UTA, the defending SLC tournament champion, ends the season 10-9. UTSA (12-10) will advance to meet the top-seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in the championship match and automatic NCAA Tournament berth. UTSA's Adam Becker gave the Roadrunners the decisive point, breaking Gonzalo Bienzabos early in the third set and holding on for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory. UTSA gathered the momentum early by jumping out quickly in the doubles play with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 position. In singles, UTAs Daniel Omana came down with severe cramps in his legs midway through the first set and was no match for Robin Fernandez, 7-6, 6-2. Alberto Agis overpowered Nenad Maric at No. 3 singles, winning the first set 6-3 and jumping out to a 3-0 lead in set two before winning 6-2. UTSA got a win from Andre Moreira at the No. 4 spot, 7-6, 6-1 over Javier Herrera. The SLC Newcomer of the Year, UTA's Dimtry Minkin, defeated Nate Avila 6-4, 6- to cut the deficit to 3-2 before Becker's win.
