M&WT: Mavs struggle in first fall tournament

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - UT Arlington competed in its first tennis tournaments of the 2012 fall season.

Liucija Smaizyte and Katarina Dikosavljevic competed in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the Aggie Invitational.

Dikosavljevic had a bye in the first round of competition, but fell to Richardson from the University of New Mexico 3-6, 6-2, 6-0. Silvia Nieva from TSU defeated Smaizyte in the first round of play.

The two paired up for doubles play where they fell to Kahn and Wookey from University of New Mexico in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round.

Several men and women competed in Midland, Texas at the Racquet Club Invitational.

Newcomer Brook Dennis defeated her first opponent as a Maverick. Dennis took down Nebraska's Lauren Wagner 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of singles play. Dennis fell in the second round to Texas Tech opponent Rashmi Teltumbole.

Senior Giada D'ortona fell to Natalie Beazant from Rice 6-1, 6-4. Penn State's Petra Januskova defeated Elizabeth Thoms in round two 6-4, 6-1. 

D'Ortona and Dennis competed against Weinreich and Weinstein from Nebraska, but fell 8-4 in doubles play.

Freshman Carlos Arbiza defeated Tristan Jackson from Tulsa University 7-6, 6-3 in round one, but fell to Franciso Zambon from Texas Tech 6-0, 6-4. 


 

 

Sebastian Ermicioiu, Yauheni Yakauleu and Soren Goritska each fell to their opponent in round one of singles competition.

Yakauleu and Goritzka paired up for doubles as the fell to TCU's Stein and Stevens in the first round. Arbiza and Ermicioiu also fell in doubles against Arknsas's Parlic and Thomas 8-4.
