WACO, Texas – The UT Arlington men’s tennis team had a solid showing at the HEB Baylor Intercollegiate tournament this weekend.
In the opening singles draw, the Mavericks went 1-3 with Carlos Arbiza earning a win in the first round before falling in the second. Arbiza finished singles play by advancing as far as the semifinal round in the consolation bracket. Yauheni Yakauleu also advanced as for as the semifinal round in the consolation bracket, bouncing back from an opening round loss. Sebestian Erimicioiu also had a strong outing for the Mavs as he advanced to the quarterfinal round in consolation play.
In doubles action, Arbiza and Yakauleu earned an opening round win before falling in the round of 16. Stefan Williams and Erimicioiu fell in the first round to a Baylor pair that was ranked second in doubles for the tournament.
“I am very pleased with the way the entire group competed,” UTA head tennis coach Diego Benitez said. “Everybody seems to be getting into the groove of match play and that is one of our main objectives for the fall. If we keep improving the way we are now, good things will await us in the spring.”
