TULSA, Okla. - Senior Sandy Farguharson and freshman Diego Mattar both competed for Texas-Arlington in the ITA All-American at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center Monday and Tuesday afternoon. The University of Tulsa hosted the event which attracted top competitors from all across the United States.
Mattar began the tournament with a victory over Wichita State's Santo Espirito, 6-4, 7-5, but bowed out in the next round in a battle against Eric Molnar of Colorado, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6.
Farquharson dropped his first two matches in tournament, losing to Mississippi State's Pierre Moullion, 6-4, 6-3, and in the consolation round to Tulsa's Frederico Soriano, 6-3, 6-4.
Th two players teamed up in doubles competition but didn't fare any better losing in the opening round to Clemson's Sander Koning and Clement Reix, 8-5. Mattar and Farquharson hold a preseason national ranking of 55th.
The Mavericks will be back in action Oct. 21-25, when they compete in the ITA Regional Qualifier. The five-day event will take place at the Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M University.
