WACO, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis team concluded a tough weekend of play at the ITA Regional Tournament held by Baylor University.
"We struggled in the opening rounds," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "In general, I feel that we made too many unforced errors and our mental game was not strong enough to compete in the toughest region in the country. We did have some good performances, especially Robles and Arbiza, who beat some of the top players of the region."
Robles advanced into the Round of 32 with wins over SMU's Mischa Nowicki and UTPA's Marucio Fosado. Robles fell to the draws top ranked competitor, third seed Shane Vinsant from Texas A&M.
Marek Pesicka defeated Lamar's Trey Crysel to advance into the Round of 64, but fell in three sets to UIW's Brandon Davis.
Daniel Echeverry advanced into the third round of the consolation draw before being defeated by fellow Mavericks Carlos Arbiza. Arbiza advanced to the semifinals, falling to the eventual consolation bracket winner, Texas A&M's Tito Moreiras.
UTA's fall season continues on Friday when the Mavericks head to the University of Texas on Friday at the Texas Invitational.
