PLANO, Texas - Texas-Arlington's Sandy Farquharson was named Aeropostale/Southland Conference Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.
Farquharson recorded a 2-0 mark in singles action during his first week of competition this season. He played both matches at the No. 1 singles position. He defeated TCU's Andrei Mlenda, 6-1, 0-6, 6-1. TCU's squad is ranked 41st in the country. Farquharson also defeated Nicholls State's Sebastien Normand, 6-2, 6-4, on Sunday. In doubles action, he teamed with Daniel Omana to go 1-1. The duo defeated Nicholls State's Normand and Vlad-Lucien Popa, 8-4, but fell to TCU's Rafael Abreu and Jacopo Tezza, 8-6.
The London, England native, helped Texas-Arlington open SLC conference-play with a 6-1 victory over Nicholls State and challenge a tough TCU squad before falling, 5-2.
The Mavericks will be back in action Thursday when they host Centenary at 10 a.m. and Cameron at 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
