ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's tennis had a busy weekend ahead. The Mavericks play host to UTPA Friday at noon at the UTA Tennis Center before heading to Austin to take on No. 6 Texas Sunday at noon.
UT Arlington is 2-4 on the season, while the Broncs are 2-7.
"We're preparing for UTPA right now, they've improved a lot in the recent years," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We've been playing really good doubles, so we hope to continue that momentum and get a point on the board early."
The last time these two schools met UT Arlington defeated UTPA 6-1 in 2012 in Edinburg, but none of the current Mavericks competed.
Following Friday's match the men travel to Austin to face Texas.
"We always look forward to playing Texas," Benitez said. "It's always great to play in Austin against a great caliber team. I told our guys this is a unique opportunity for them to go out and beat a top 10 team."
Last season, the Mavericks traveled to Austin to take on the No. 15 Longhorns. Texas swept UTA 7-0. Current players Carlos Arbiza, Marek Pesicka and Sebastian Erimicioiu competed for the Mavericks in that match.
