MAVERICKS FALL 6-1 TO WICHITA STATE

Wichita, Kan. - The UT Arlington men's tennis squad dropped a hard-fought 6-1 decision against Wichita State on Friday, February 27 at the Genesis Health Club in Wichita, Kan.

The loss dropped the Mavs to 3-4 overall while the Shockers improved to 3-4. Sophomore Brieuc Hamon was the only Maverick to record a point for UTA, as he collected a three-set singles' victory over Jonathan Obrist in the No. 3 position.

UT Arlington dropped ever match in doubles' action, giving Wichita State a 1-0 advantage heading into singles' play.

Falling short of their seventh consecutive doubles' victory was senior Dmitry Minkin and newcomer Mindaugas Celedinas who suffered a 6-4, 6-3 setback in the No. 1 spot against Adrian Chermaci and Vladamir while Gonzalo Bienzobas and Jason Lateko dropped an 8-5 decision against Obrist and Michal Zawadzki in the No. 2 position.

In the No. 3 position, Hamon and Adam Srkala lost their match by a final score of 8-4 to David Cavalcanti and Matt Teivans.

In singles' play, Celedinas suffered a 6-4, 6-3 setback against Vladamir Marinescu in the No. 1 position while Minkin dropped a three-set match to Chermaci by scores of 6-3, 3-6 and 6-2.

Zawadzki handed Srkala a 6-4, 6-3 loss in the No. 4 position while Bienzobas dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 and 10-5 decision to Cavalcanti in the No. 5 spot and Subirats lost his match by scores of 6-1, 4-6, and 1-0 (10-5) in the No. 6 spot.

UTA continues tennis action tomorrow with a match-up with Oral Roberts University at the Genesis Health Club in Wichita, Kan. Game time is set for noon.
