ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men’s tennis team will travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico to being a three-match series as they face Western New Mexico, New Mexico State and Northern Arizona this weekend.
The Mavericks will open the weekend against Western New Mexico Friday, March 1 at 2 p.m. as they look for their second win of the season. UTA is 1-3 overall with all three loses coming to ranked, Big 12 opponents.
The first Western Athletic Conference match for the Mavericks is Saturday, March 2 as the Mavs face the New Mexico State Aggies at 11 a.m. on the Aggies home court. This will be the first and last WAC opener for the Mavs as the team moves to the Sun Belt Conference next season.
"I believe the team is ready for the challenges of competing in a new conference," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We will take every point and every match one at a time".
Following Saturday’s match, the men will face Northern Arizona Sunday at 11 a.m. for their final match of the weekend.
The men hope to pick up three wins this weekend to give them an overall record of 4-3 and 1-0 in the WAC.
