Frisco, Texas - UT Arlington sophomore Brieuc Hamon was named the Southland Conference's men's tennis player of the week, announced by the league office on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.
Hamon led the Mavericks to a pair of wins in three matches this week, including the team's first conference victory of the 2009 season at Lamar on Feb. 24. UT Arlington pulled off the narrow victory against the Cardinals when Hamon broke a 3-3 tie by clinching a 1-6, 6-3, and 6-4 win over Maciej Bogusz.
A native of Noirville, France, Hamon followed up his stellar play two days later in Wichita, Kan., where he notched the Mavericks' only victory in a 6-1 loss to Wichita State. The St. Marie High product defeated the Shockers' Jonathan Obrist at the No. 3 position in three sets.
On Sunday against Oral Roberts, Hamon defeated Alexander Dargel 7-5, 6-4 in singles play. The sophomore added a doubles victory alongside Adam Srkala as the Mavericks shutout the Golden Eagles.
Hamon becomes the second UT Arlington men's tennis player to earn the weekly honor this season. Teammate Mindaugas Celedinas was voted player of the week on Feb. 10.
