MEN'S TENNIS COLLECTS 5-2 WIN OVER UTPA

Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis squad posted a 5-2 conference win over UTPA on Sunday, March 29 at the UTA Tennis Center. UTA improves to 8-8 overall and 2-1 in SLC action.

"We started the match with a big statement winning all three doubles matches," said head men's tennis coach Diego Benitez. "We were able to carry the momentum and play a very high level of tennis against a team that came to Arlington inspired after beating four conference teams."

The Mavs secured all three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches in the victory.

Tandem Dmitry Minkin and Mindaugas Celedinas notched an 8-5 win over Aswin Vijayaragavan and Brett Bernstein in the No. 1 position while Gonzalo Bienzobas and Brieuc Hamon handed Nirvick Mohinta and Beau Bernstein an 8-7 (3) loss in the No. 2 spot.

Adam Srkala and David Subirats collected a 9-7 win over Marcus Dornauf and Andrew Irving in the No. 3 position in the lineup.

The Mavs continued their dominating play heading into singles action as they collected wins in the number-one, two, four, five and six positions.

Celedinas handed Vijayaragavan a 6-1, 6-3 loss in the No. 1 position while Minkin recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Mohinta in the No. 2 spot.

Hamon suffered a 7-5, 7-5 setback to Irving in the No. 3 position while Subirats handed Bernstein a 6-3, 6-2 loss in the No. 4 spot in the rotation.

Srkala recorded a three-set win over Bernstein in the No. 5 spot, by scores of 6-1, 2-6 and 6-1 while Bienzobas won his match against Dornauf, by scores of 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 6 position.

 

 

UTA returns back to the tennis courts on Wednesday, April 1 when they take on A&M-Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas. Match time is set for2 p.m.
