MAVERICKS FALL 6-1 TO NO. 42 A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI

Corpus Christi, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback on the road against No. 42 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday, April 1 at the Corpus Christi Country Club. The loss dropped the Mavs to 8-9 overall while the Islanders improved to 8-7 on the season. Gonzalo Bienzobas was the only Maverick to collect a win in singles action, playing in the No. 6 position. Bienzobas handed James Langford a 6-4, 5-7, and 11-9 loss. UTA fell in all three doubles matches as the Islanders went on to record the match point. Mikhail Pavlov and Dmitry Novikov handed Dmitry Minkin and Mindaugas Celedinas an 8-1 loss in the No. 1 position while Brieuc Hamon and Gonzalo Bienzobas dropped an 8-5 decision to Laurent Montoisy and Jose Zunino, playing in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. In the No. 3 position, Adam Srkala and David Subirats lost their match to Langford and David Pace, by a score of 8-5. Celedinas suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback to Pavlov in the No. 1 spot while Minkin lost the No. 2 match against Montoisy, with a final score of 6-1, 6-3. Novikov handed Subirats a 6-2, 6-0 loss in the No. 3 position while Zunino collected a win over Srkala, by scores of 6-4, 6-3. Jason Lateko lost a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Jaume Farras in the No. 6 spot in the rotation.
The Mavericks continue conference action on Sunday, April 5 in Thibodeaux, La. where they will face Nicholls State. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
