MEN'S BRACKET | WOMEN'S BRACKET
NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference released the men's and women's brackets for the 2017 SBC Championship Tournament hosted at City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans beginning on Thursday.
The women received the No. 6 seed despite a 4-0 record in conference play and will take on No. 11 Arkansas State on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. The men are No. 3 in their bracket, taking on No. 6 Georgia Southern on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The women finished their campaign with a 10-9 overall record and swept their match with the Redwolves earlier this season 4-0 in Jonesboro, Ark. The winner will take on No. 3 Georgia State, a team in which the Mavericks defeated 4-1 on March 18 at home. UTA is 6-2 all-time against A-State and 2-0 against Georgia State. If UTA were to advance into the semifinals, it would potentially mean another meeting with South Alabama. UTA and South Alabama have met in the last three tournaments with the Jags taking all three - one in the championship and two in the semifinals.
On the mens side, the Mavericks finished with a 14-8 record, with five of the losses coming to nationally ranked opponents. UTA is the SBC defending champion.
UTA defeated its first round opponent 4-3 on March 18 and are 2-0 all-time against the Eagles.
