ARLINGTON, Texas— The UT Arlington men’s tennis team will compete in the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend.
The men enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 seeded UTSA in the quarterfinals to begin the tournament.
UTA is the bottom ranked seed in the tournament after completing conference play with just one victory and finished with a record of 1-5 in league competition, 7-13 overall.
The UTSA Roadrunners are 3-1 in the WAC and just over .500 with a 12-10 record throughout the season.
“I think they played a lot better at the beginning of the season this year and I think they got a little tired throughout the season,” UT Arlington head coach Diego Benitez said. “Unfortunately we didn’t play too well in the conference matches.
“The men know they’ve beat really good teams this year and they’ve shown they aren’t giving up. We need to put three matches together in Denver and we’re going to go one match at a time.”
“We’re going to practice hard and coach is going to push us,” Yakauleu said before heading to the conference tournament. “We don’t know if we’re going to win or lose, but these four years have been great and I hope we can end the season with some wins.”
The tournament is single elimination as the Mavericks take on UTSA Friday at 11 a.m. at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver, Colo.
